How Come There’s Never Any Healthy Food In The Vending Machine?
November 14th, 2009 Posted in Información General
That’s all vending machines are full of at the hospital I work at .. sunflower seeds, baked chips, peanuts, whole week crackers, non fat animal crackers. If enough people ask, maybe they’ll make a change. :o)
Sadly, a lot of healthy food is perishable and doesn’t have a great shelf life (without preservatives). Also, many people go to the vending machine for a Snickers, not something healthy. Vending machine companies are there for the profit and clearly not the health :o(

cuz thats the point of a vending machine! Treats! Although, our vending machine has “healthy choices”

The food in vending machines is usually “comfort” food, food for stress at work or food for “quick” fixes like “I need something sweet.” Even granola bars are high calorie and poor choices.
That type of food is usually overpriced and well stocked. There are even some companies that get a kick back of money from the vending machine people to have the machines at their job.
“Food” in the machines will range from sweet, salty, sour, chewy, crunchy, gummy, chocolaty, or spicy just for quick sales.
It boils down to just plain sales; healthy food does not sell well in an environment where you are not watched or don’t care.

Supply and Demand!
If enough people wanted it, it would be supplied.

Now that is a very good question!
I’ve often wondered about it myself.

Probably because fruits and vegetables don’t have preservatives and additives in them. They would spoil in a vending machine. Also, alot of people crave high salt or sugar snacks rather than something healthier. At least vending machines sometimes sell healthier juices that can be chilled to serve.

I am sure there is a vending machine somewhere that does!!! Maybe California or up North. I am in South Carolina and when it comes to health…we are generally the last to know what the rest of the world is doing.

they wouldn’t make as much money if there were granola bars in a vending machine instead of potato chips. which is too bad because sometimes i would really just like a nice. healthy granola bar, can i get one, no. i wish, we should riot for more healthy foods in vending machines.

What? That food’s unhealthy? Wow…I never knew.

That’s because healthy food doesn’t bring profit, which is exactly the aim of having a vending machine…
