How Does The Vending Tell The Differnce Between $1 And $5 Bills?

On denominations above $1, there is a microstrip embedded in the bill. If you hold the bill up to the light, you will see it at the left end of the bill. The $1 has no strip & that my friend is how the machine knows ;o)

a special scanner has been programmed to scanned the bill and identifiy it.
