It may be the students role to decide what they should do to decide what they eat and do not eat, but it is clear the large majority do not take that seriously.
The parents should be responsible but they clearly, can't, want or don't want that either and are probably obese also.
That leaves the schools who are now taking the action they should have years ago.
Under Health and Safety Regulations a school as to provide safe and healthy conditions for the students, therefore they are breaking the regulations by allowing unhealthy junk food in the schools.
They can still have the machines in the schools as long as they conform.
I am sure companies like Coke and Pepsi will fill their cabinets with the diet or zero versions, rather than loosing the site to sell their products.
I am sure other companies will follow suit, if threatened with the enforced removal of their machines.
With that I will end my case.
I will congratulate America as it has lost it's status of being the nation with the largest numbers of fatties. It wasn't through lack of trying though, Australia has beaten you, just.
Not something to be proud of I think.

Well 2 years ago when I was in high school they took out all sodas and chips out of the vending machines and replaced them with like Sunkist and Serra Mist (which doesn't make sense since those have just as much sugar). Then they started to shut down the machines during class time and during passing periods. The thing is you can't really depend on a bunch of kids to be responsible for their nutritional intake. They eat what they eat because (for now) they have fast metabolisms. Plus if the "un-nutrional" snacks are taken away from them and replaced with "healthier" snacks they will be forced to buy them because what else is there to eat. The thing is unhealthy people will continue to be unhealthy until they realize they need to make a lifestyle change. But the school contributions to a "healthier" lifestyle does help. I think they should only enforce this in the elementary and middle schools. I think high schoolers can make their own choices.

Removing? No. Offering healthier options? Yes
I agree with you, everyone has responsibility and they should use it. I get quite tired of people ruining my luxuries simply because this world accommodates to stupidity.
