What Do You Think About Book Vending Machines?

Insert ten dollars, press the appropriate buttons and take home a brand new copy of your favorite book right from the liquor store.
Good idea?
Maybe it just sounds good to me because of the liquor store part?

But that would take away from the experience of going to a bookstore. And you’d be limited to a small number of books.
I couldn’t do that. The smell of books is my favorite part of going to the book store, and a vending machine just takes the magic out of both going to the bookstore and the book you got from the vending machine. I mean, could you imagine the conversation? “Hey, I got this amazing book from Barnes and Noble.” versus “Hey, I got this amazing book from the vending machine outside Walmart.”
Yeah. There you go.

Have you seen one of those yet? I just heard about it on Minnesota Public Radio or National Public Radio- can’t remember.
I think it’s ruining what getting a book is all about. Going to the book store. Those authentic little homey book stores will forever be in ruins.

We have those in Driving School places. Put $15 in, select the copy you want, and out comes your brand new drivers manual… I don’t like it, kinda scares me. Imagine putting the $15 in and the vending machine eating your money.

I hardly think that people who are at a liquor store are going to be interested in buying a book…lol.
However, it wouldn’t be a BAD idea. But ten dollars is a bit much. The book would need to be priced appropriately.

I think it’s a great idea. But i dont think people that are buying a 1/5 of Jack are gonna want to read a book while they are drinking it. I think it would be good at coffee shops.

No way. I like to hold a book - read the jacket maybe. Open it up and read the first page. I wouldn’t use it. I will continue to buy most of my books at Costco. Pax-C
